We open this newsletter with a reminder about my favorite charity, Last Hope Rescue, that for years has been a beacon of light for dogs who are facing their last days in shelters. At this time of reflection about our many blessings, please consider a donation here. The need is great. My fellow dog pal Christian Minor contacted me this past week about a social media post of two male dogs lying emaciated in the deep forests of Marianna. Yet, no one was seemingly doing anything to help! Christian made the two-hour roundtrip from Tallahassee and delivered them to me. They are safe and sound now and looking for a good home.
I was heartened to read the Governor’s recent proposal to help shelter dogs find loving homes and provide enhanced protections for puppies. Under the plan, the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation will be directed to license dog breeders and hold accountable puppy mills that abuse dogs, whether by overbreeding them, leaving them out in extreme weather, cramming them into small cages, or limiting their access to water. It also includes establishing a hotline for people to call and report abuse by breeders to better crack down on these bad actors.
As you make plans for the new year that is just a bit more than three weeks away, please consider including your attendance at the Professional Insurance Agents (PIA) of Florida 2026 Conference and Trade Show. This year’s show is titled “The Next Wave” and will be filled with timely and relevant information, insights, and opportunities. Sessions include how to grow your book in the new year, an AI workshop with a take home workbook and free agency tech audit, and an advocacy update on the legislative session by yours truly. The dates are February 23 & 24 at the beautiful Tradewinds Resort in St. Petersburg Beach, Florida. You can register here as well as view the sponsorship/exhibitor brochure.
This is our last scheduled LMA Newsletter of the year. We’ll return on January 6, with an edition that will include the latest on the upcoming 60-day session of the Florida Legislature that convenes on January 13. In the meantime, please stay well, and may your holiday be filled with good cheer and the love of family and friends (and pets)! Please know we appreciate your readership and feedback this year and always.
