Many of you will call me and open the phone call with “Hi, were you on the phone?” I just smile and appreciate so much those that recognize our work lives are telephone and Zoom driven! And most of my calls are with those who are following the challenging property insurance industry, bad weather, or COVID. I do my best to encourage, support and lend a hand and find ways to just try to make it better. As I was speaking to an insurance agent recently about what he called a “crumbling insurance market,” I reminded him of “Rocky Balboa,” the movie from 2006 and a terrific quote from Sylvester Stallone:
“Let me tell you something you already know. The world ain’t all sunshine and rainbows. It’s a very mean and nasty place, and I don’t care how tough you are, it will beat you to your knees and keep you there permanently if you let it. You, me, or nobody is gonna hit as hard as life. But it ain’t about how hard you hit. It’s about how hard you can get hit and keep moving forward; how much you can take and keep moving forward. That’s how winning is done! Now, if you know what you’re worth, then go out and get what you’re worth. But you gotta be willing to take the hits, and not point fingers saying you ain’t where you wanna be because of him, or her, or anybody. Cowards do that and that ain’t you. You’re better than that!”
There was a long pause on the phone and then he said, “I have work to do! Thanks for the kick in the tail!” I just wanted to share some perspective from one tough guy! Next up are some terrific tales, teachings and tributes!
