Many of you love to write like we do and consider writing a life-long passion. As an ardent advocate for good public policy in the insurance arena and other industries, writing allows me to gather thoughts and introduce them to you. This mutual relationship with each of you grows when I allow myself to capture words to reminisce about the past, highlight the present, and plan for the future. Writing is a cherished opportunity to share ideas with you, akin to creating a recipe for a delicious dish, with the letters being the basic ingredient, and taking time to measure and mix just right my thoughts into words, phrases and sentences, until the meal is cooked and ready to serve.
I read an essay on writing by Jack Levine, one of Florida’s strongest children and family advocates, who believes that reading and writing are inseparable activities. He reminded me that Stephen King says the scariest moment for every writer is just before you start, with Isaac Asimov reminding us that writing is thinking through the fingers. For our history buffs, writing produced every historic document, memorable speech and literary masterpiece. It is one reason that humankind is the only species that has the capacity to keep record of the past.
