The Halloween season has finally arrived, and in a year where time has seemingly run amuck, let us give pause to celebrate the beauty of fall in our great Sunshine State. While we may not have the classic New England fall colors and cold weather, we can always pay a visit back to nature for that same Halloween feeling. Finding your nearest local pumpkin patch is a great way to do just that.
A visit can provide not just that cozy holiday feeling, it lends something of equal sentimental value unique to the holiday season – a common sense of community. Making great foods from scratch with locally harvested pumpkins are great for such an occasion. Pumpkin pies, baked pumpkin seeds, pumpkin muffins and the like can all make the perfect gift for someone you love or even for someone in need – especially in the pandemic era where the need for charitable gestures is more prevalent than ever. Or perhaps consider helping out at your local food bank or volunteering for other community activities.
Whether it’s canned pumpkin donations to a food drive or supporting your local pumpkin patch, the season of giving is more important this year than any in recent memory. We can make the best of our time in a changing world, without letting it foster the spookiest aspects of our society. Rather, we can live and give with the season and foster the better angels of our nature.
See you on the trail,
Lisa
