Our readers are the kindest, most generous humans I know. Every time we publish a newsletter edition, we receive terrific feedback about our opening which is where we try so hard to share a smile, provide a bit of inspiration, and tell a story to make your week.
This past week, one of our longtime readers in the Tampa Bay area submitted this story and we just had to share it with you. Warning: you most likely will tear-up when you watch the short video that accompanied her letter.
Dear Lisa,
I have had my dad’s walker in the car since he passed away many months ago. I just was having a hard time letting it go, often convinced I could smell his cologne scent most likely from his hands that guided the walker to his destination. I just knew that I would find the right time to surrender it and the right person to continue to use it. While traveling to an appointment, I saw this guy struggling to walk near Florida Avenue and Waters Street. I was on the wrong side of the road so I made a U turn to go back to that corner and parked in one of the large convenience stores that was packed full of cars.
I carefully removed the walker from my SUV and began to walk toward him, my gait much faster than his, so caught up to him quickly. When I reached him, I know I startled him but calmly told him who I was and then said, “I’m not saying you need a walker but I had this one in my car that belonged to my father who is now in heaven. Is there any chance that you would like to have it?” He was stunned…he looked at me and the tears began streaming – for the both of us. He reached out to the walker with both hands, steadied himself, nodded and continued his journey. And I continued mine… the journey my father and mother set for me that I walk every day. I wanted to share with you and your team so that others who would do the exact same thing know how much they are appreciated. Thank you for letting me be a part of the LMA world.
