Jared Moskowitz retiring
Florida has a new Director of its Emergency Management Division with the appointment this past week of current Deputy Director Kevin Guthrie to the top job overseeing Florida’s disaster management program. Jared Moskowitz announced he is leaving the job after two years, which saw him running Florida’s response efforts in the past five hurricanes, plus the ongoing coronavirus pandemic response. Governor DeSantis praised Moskowitz for his service and hard work.
Kevin Guthrie has served as Deputy Director of the Emergency Management Division for the past two years. His 30 years of progressive public safety management experience include serving as Pasco County’s Assistant County Administrator for Public Safety, Emergency Manager of Flagler County, and all-hazards training coordinator with the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office, where he also served as a police officer.
Guthrie will take over as Director on May 1. He has a reputation as a rock star in Florida emergency management circles and has worked hard for Floridians and emergency managers alike. I am privileged to know and work with Director Guthrie. He is an amazing leader and emergency manager.
