One of our regular readers sent this meme to us as she was touched by the story in our last edition on The Power of Resilience. And the thought this meme shares is the truth. When we find ourselves in situations that upset us or make us angry, our first thought is always, “why is this happening to me?”
This past week I spoke to a young lady who is an insurance professional. She was affected by a Reduction in Force (RIF) with a very well thought of insurance company. I am often looking for talent to help my clients fill positions and after some searching I found this young woman on LinkedIn. I reached out to her to first let her know I too have been part of a RIF and it feels like a punch in the gut. We talked about how it makes you immediately wonder how on earth the RIF could have happened and that no one saw it coming.
Even more frustrating, we both chuckled as we discussed that we were of the ones hit by the RIF. After all, we work hard, show up, outperform others and take pride in our work. All that doesn’t matter when it comes to decisions outside of our control. Her situation is a bit more dire as her first child is due October 2023. I told her that her resume was impressive and we would find her something to do remotely before she delivers and after that we would get her settled.
I closed our conversation with the fact that that what happened to her will make her much stronger and there is always a plan. For Christians, that plan involves our faith in God. For others, there is a higher power or some part of the universe that sets our path. But whatever the plan, we all have to pull together, learn from our gut punches and carry on with the next step because whatever is happening, it is happening FOR you. Just remember to take the next step.
Have a great week and see you on the trail!
