My cousin in New York City recently posted the photo at left on his social media. It is indeed, so true, that living in times of disparity do help us focus on the important things in life that we sometimes take for granted. Despite everything that has happened in 2020, this holiday season is one for pausing to appreciate what we have.
Just about anything that could happen, did – with much of it unpredictable. We’ve had the coronavirus pandemic and a record year of hurricanes, with 12 named Atlantic storms making landfall, resulting in upwards of $65 billion in economic damage. We’ve had wildfires with resulting homeowners insurance scarcity in California, riots in 20 states, and cyberattacks that doubled in number going into the pandemic last spring. Some of these calamities will take a seasonal break, others will continue for now. It’s been an especially busy time for those of us in insurance and claims management, with some issues, such as business interruption coverage, still unresolved going into the New Year. We’ll continue to follow these issues and report on them in the pages of this newsletter.
In this holiday season, we hope that you, your family, and colleagues remain safe and well. This is a year that we’ll surely remember for its unique challenges, but also for the resulting opportunities to reflect on what truly matters. We appreciate you and the relationship we’ve built over the years – working together. We send our best wishes that you and yours will create cherished memories in this special season of life. And, please remember our armed forces who serve so that we can be free to celebrate our family traditions.
