We opened this edition amid the whirlwind of events transpiring here at home and around the globe, hoping to hear uplifting and inspiring stories of individuals coming together to help one another. Most of us genuinely want to improve our quality of life and the lives of those in our communities. Sometimes, we see and hear surprising results, with one such story this past week in Clearwater, Florida where five lifeguards were honored with the American Red Cross Lifesaving Award.
Lifeguards Jonathan House, Cameron Gasky, Noah Barker, William Armstrong IV, and Dannah Fuller rescued their former mentor, Clifford Patterson, from drowning when he suffered a sudden heart attack in the Morningside Recreation Complex swimming pool. Quick thinking and attentive action led their efforts in saving their 66-year-old trainer’s life. It was in fact Mr. Patterson’s investment in these five lifeguards and their training that saved his own life.
This is a special and inspiring example of what investment, trust and respect in and for one another can bring to our lives. Not out of selfishness, but of genuine cause and care for everyone’s safety and wellbeing. We have opportunities every day to pass on knowledge and share kindness with those around us, because shared fulfillment of success, wellbeing and life, benefits us all and keeps us moving forward.
See you on the trail,
Lisa
