While in the Capitol this week, I was patiently waiting for a legislator to discuss some insurance fraud issues. During my wait, I chatted with a University of Central Florida legislative intern who will be in Tallahassee for the entire 9 week session to experience government firsthand.
I am so glad I engaged with this young person. We talked about his future (and my past!) and what he planned to do after session. I found myself going through the milestones of my life and how fortunate and blessed I am…my college and professional career, the mentors who walked me through some challenging times, and all the great memories I’ve had in public and private service.
For this newsletter edition, I thought I would ask each of you to think of milestones that you would like to share, and we will reprint, anonymously, some of the chapters of your life! Here’s a few to get you thinking:
- Falling in love
- Heart-broken for the first time
- Recognizing your passion at a young age
- Getting fired from your first job
- Graduating high school, college or technical school
- Landing your dream job
- Losing a close friend
- Getting married
- Becoming a parent
- Buying your first car and first home
Life is unpredictable and when you think you have it figured out, you’re thrown a curveball. In baseball, you get more at-bats. You start seeing more curveballs and you get better at hitting them. As we all know, life isn’t that much different. As an old friend of mine said, “you get seasoned at handling each of life’s milestones.” We move on, as time is a great teacher and healer.
Look forward to hearing from you this week and thanks for being such loyal readers!
