Last week I had the privilege to present at NV5’s annual spring training event. NV5 is a forensic engineering and building consulting firm. The audience was brimming with claims professionals and engineers but the most fascinating was the intelligence, insight and innovative ideas we exchanged.
I listened to their stories of how they spend their days, the challenges they face on the front lines, and what they believe is the future of claims handling. It was a lively conversation and I shared with them my 2020 resolution: to track and report to authorities and legal profession regulators the lawyers who exploit senior citizens and those most vulnerable, and the contractors who are as bad or worse. Not surprisingly, many in the audience have come across these bad characters with one participant telling the audience about an 84 year old man who called his insurance company very upset because he couldn’t get the roofing solicitor out of his house. Another audience member said he spoke to a claimant that said something told him to put his handgun in his pocket as the solicitor approached the door! No telling where that knock on the door was going!
Not a week goes by that I don’t talk to consumers, claims professionals and law enforcement about how we must stop the solicitation antics plaguing our neighborhoods and causing heartache for so many. What tools do you have in your toolbox to fight what appears to be epidemic proportions of roof claims that shouldn’t be claims at all? How do we stop those who are forcing consumers to sign contracts for no other reason than to game the system? I am eager to hear your suggestions. Enjoy this edition of our newsletter and we always look forward to talking with you!
