I attended the National Flood Conference earlier this month where almost 2,000 industry professionals continued the conversations from last year and years before about flooding and current key issues of mutual interest and concern. I had the opportunity to address the attendees to discuss ways to reduce the risk of loss for mobile homes. Skeptics say there isn’t a way to “mitigate” a mobile home while others say that tying the units with specially designed anchors do the trick. The conference was filled with timely speakers and helpful breakout sessions on underwriting, claims, lenders, agents, and marketing. Exhibitors shared their latest products and services. Once again we want to recognize the efforts of Don Griffin, long-time conference coordinator extraordinaire for the National Flood Conference. Every session is meaningful, with the attention to detail and execution flawless.
While there, I spent time with Floodproofing.com, my favorite flood mitigation experts that I met over a decade ago and whose work I have followed ever since. Floodproofing.com specializes in protecting communities and businesses from floods and with this latest announcement, they are the only organization that can now provide a total flood mitigation solution − from assessing the flood risk, to manufacturing the flood mitigation retrofits, to installing them, and finally, providing an insurance solution to cover the risk. Their company personifies the success that can be had when a team works hard, keeps an eye on the vision, and stays humble. I just love where the company in the above release says that they are “putting Mother Nature on notice” in their crusade to mitigate the devastating effects of flooding and create greater flood resiliency across the world. Right on!
Up next, the latest on the early jump we’ve gotten to the summer catastrophe season, news about Citizens Property Insurance and the greater Florida marketplace, the big condominium self-off underway, plus a special post-Father’s Day reflection on the state of fatherhood.
