Our readers have often seen Senator Jeff Brandes’ name in our newsletter, especially when we talk about innovative and creative ideas. Once again Senator Brandes recognized the need to help farmers place their produce in an alternative market since restaurants who wanted fresh vegetables pre-COVID-19 no longer needed these products during this closure.
Once our team spoke to Senator Brandes about the 60,000 cases of tomatoes and thousands of squash and other produce that could potentially rot with no customers to use them, he quickly connected with the Florida Department of Corrections and in a matter of days, trucks were rolling to over 35 correctional facilities to deliver the fresh produce to supply inmate and staff needs.
