Since 1995, Presidents Clinton, Bush and Obama have issued a series of annual proclamations designating March as “Women’s History Month.” Between 1988 and 1994, Congress passed additional resolutions requesting and authorizing the President to proclaim March as the month we set aside to honor women’s contributions in American history.
Women’s History Month began as a local celebration in Santa Rosa, California and today it is celebrated in the United States, the United Kingdom, and Australia. One presidential proclamation said, “Too often women were unsung and sometimes their contributions went unnoticed. But the achievements, leadership, courage, strength and love of the women who built America was as vital as that of the men whose names we know so well ….It is an essential and indispensable heritage from which we can draw pride, comfort, courage, and long-range vision.”
The month of March flew by and shame on me for not reminding our readers of this important national celebration to honor the women who have made our country and our lives so tremendous. So as you read this, get up from your desk to go visit (or make a call to) a female co-worker, relative or a friendly passerby and thank them for who they are and all they do!
Keep reading please. We vow that in every edition we will report on Hurricane Michael updates because the need is so great. And of course, this week’s Bill Watch is chock full of Florida legislative happenings and more!
