Roof Changes to Florida Building Code

Helpful for tile roof repair

The Florida Building Code has a change in its treatment of roof repair versus replacement.  Section 706.5 of the building code is expanded to specifically allow for the use of salvaged tile as long as it is not broken and of like material and profile. The changes were effective January 1.

The prior version only allowed for the use of “existing” tile to be reinstalled while the new version allows for use of salvaged, obsolete tiles that are not broken.  The change will be helpful for consumers who have roof tiles, as an example, that are obsolete when the consumer can find “old” tiles that are no longer commercially available.  You can read more on page 49 of this summary of changes download to the 2020 building code.  We are happy to answer any questions you may have about this new provision as we start the New Year!
