I hope each of you are well and staying productive. One of my readers commented that his teenage daughters who never wanted to “hang out” with each other because of different interests have had a ball the past two weeks since they can’t go anywhere outside the four corners of their home! Silver linings. Share yours as you discover them! Happy to listen.
There are certainly great ways to “pass the time” and catch up on things we’ve been meaning to do, but just haven’t had the time. From catching up on past movies you may have missed, to working on your taxes (although we have a 90 extension to July 15 – but why wait?), to instructive videos (YouTube “how-to’s” for all those home projects we’ve been putting off!), there are positive, productive ways to take advantage of the home time on our hands.
A team of 30 University of Miami researchers has been busy developing a point-of-care coronavirus test that requires just a simple throat swab, with results delivered on a paper strip, similar to a home pregnancy test. Results would be in 30 minutes vs. the current test’s timeframe of several days.
Another Florida home-grown solution – on the employment front – comes from Publix Super Markets, which announced last week that it is hiring for more than 2,000 permanent positions in Florida and six other states. These include in-store and warehouse jobs. Walmart is looking for about 9,400 new people in its Florida stores and distribution centers. And we have all seen the thousands of openings with Amazon, CVS, the federal government, and others.
The best idea we have seen since this journey began is the suggestion from one of our loyal followers who recommended a “National Day of Disinfecting,” so we all focus on ways to kill the virus using many of the cleaners we have in our cabinets. Please take the idea and make it your own by calling your local radio or TV station and get them engaged!
There are other bright spots, too, proving that sometimes “laughter is the best medicine” as the expression goes. Governor DeSantis pointed out with a chuckle at a recent media briefing that the otherwise big news that the Tampa Bay Buccaneers have landed star quarterback Tom Brady has been swept by the wayside. And how about the Pasco County man who passed off with a laugh a report of his own death by the local health department!
Again, let’s stay positive and looking forward to hearing of Your silver linings! Now on to the news!
