They say that you can see the true character of a person in times of crisis. Here’s an example of how one company is responding to the pandemic with respect and compassion and how tough times bring out true qualities of leadership. This is a recent email on the eve of a new week from Robert “Bob” Ritchie, President and CEO of American Integrity Insurance Company of Tampa, to his staff. He has given me permission to share it with you here.
Good evening, team AI:
We are on the dawn of week three of our complete telecommuting experience!
As we look at this journey, I’m sure that none of us expected that this would be the short term environment we are facing only to be turned to a medium term reality.
I am so inspired by all of you. We all have our concerns, and we all have our fears. Yet, all of us step up to Monday morning with our game face on, inspired to get all of our focus converted to energy to propel our great Company, and at the same time to offer hope and encouragement to all of our friends and family.
All of our 250 employees are looking at every one of us for inspiration, encouragement, realism, and hope for the future. I know that each of us is equipped to provide these very things to all of us.
I am absolutely confident that week three of this new experience will be our very best ever. The reason for my confidence rests entirely upon the passion, energy, focus, and creativity of all of you.
Sleep well. Please know that I am in this gym of adversity with each and every one of you, and I couldn’t be prouder to be part of the experience that all of us have in front of us.
I am a very grateful man.
In service,
Bob
Folks, that is indeed, one powerful message.
Have a safe and productive week and we’ll see you on the (virtual) trail,
Lisa
