This weekend I hosted an emergency room physician in my home for the weekend as he was on assignment temporarily in Taylor County (Perry) Florida. He worked 12-hour shifts for two days and then is off for two days. So he went in at 6:30am and he got to my house at 9pm Friday night and not until almost 10:30pm Saturday evening.
He shared with me that on Friday in the small town of Perry, there were over 20 COVID ER patients and over 30 on Saturday. These patients had varying stages of the COVID-10 variant and several asked whether they could have the vaccine. He had to tell these patients it was too late for the shot. I promise you as my faithful readers that I am not going to get into the Vax Vs Anti-Vax debate. What I am going to do is just share his story and the stress on his face as he sat down at my dinner table and just wanted to talk.
He asked so many questions that neither of us could answer and there was some silence as we reflected on the lives in peril in the hospital where he was working as hard as he could to save every one of them. We don’t say it enough in this publication and I am going to fix that. Our healthcare workers are heroes. I know – I had one up close and personal for 48 hours.
